Earth Hour 2012

Today is the day to make a huge impact on energy consumption and become more energy conscious! Join millions of people all around the world for one hour. At 8:30pm turn off all your lights, unplug all your appliances, and save energy to help our environment. Yes, you can even unplug the refrigerator for one hour!

This small action will grow exponentially as we remind ourselves of ways we can help our environment.

1. It teachers our children how important it is to save energy by turning off lights when they are not needed.

2. It reminds us of our own need to pay more attention to how we waste energy – I am able to list things I notice from my stool as I type: There is a light on on the office which is wasting electricity; the kids left the water running, again, as they brushed their teeth; not one appliance was unplugged last night, even if it was not going to be used this morning! Massive FAIL!

There really is so much more to this hour than meets the eye. If we black out for an hour, our neighbors might ask about it and we have a great opportunity for discussion and education. We don’t have to go anywhere to join this massive moment across the world, yet by being conscious of our energy consumption for one hour, we may become more energy conscious more often.

During Earth Hour, More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide will switch off their lights, sending a powerful message for action on climate change. It will also usher in a new era with members going Beyond the Hour to commit to lasting action for the planet. Without a doubt, it’s will show how great things can be achieved when people come together for a common cause.

Will you take action and unplug for an hour?

I love to hear from you!
